Behind the Scenes Secrets

What do you guys think of this? This is pure talent promotion - that has nothing to do with newscast content.

Is that a bad thing? A good thing?

I think TV people tend to dislike these kinds of spots - but do viewers eat them up?

I wasn't a huge fan watching these - but can this type of spot work to make anchors more memorable? more accessable?

Do they work better in smaller markets?

Share your thoughts below. These are something I probably wouldn't do necessarily -- would you?

call me a dork... but i kind of liked them!

I think these would totally work in smaller markets... and I would know ;)

I'm not sure I'd put one of these on the air...It's always tough getting anchors to 'act.' And when they can't... abandon ship :)

Hmmm....

These are well-made... but... I find them all kind of creepy in a way.

"ABC7... we're replacing human employees with robots every day!"

The first thing I thought of after the robot spot was "seven or eight people lost their jobs because of this."

The pants one... I get it that it confirms what viewers always suspect-- that anchors don't wear pants-- but I found it a bit too weird... The whole tone of it makes one immediately start thinking of all the other bits of clothing anchors or reporters might not be wearing.

And the tall/short one was just so inane that it belittles (heh) the anchors.

I'm normally someone that doesn't mind when stations have a bit of fun, but these were just a bit off for me.

These spots only work for a clear #1 station where the viewers LOVE the anchors.

If you're a number 3, well, the viewers could care less.

I also think the presentation needs a feeling of more quirkiness. They come off as strange.

I think the spots work. They sell a feature of the newscast or station...that the talent is human, relatable and fun.

We don't usually do these kinds of spots, but maybe our talent just isn't human, relatable or fun.

There all those things...There relatable, there pointless and yet they would break though some clutter. I think this is a promo done to just simply appeal to some and yet not all. In the end it seams a little to me that this is a department that think a little to highly of there newsroom. So often the promotions department thing that TV is so cool that everyone at home thinks the same thing and its just not true. Would I do this spot? No. But is it wrong? No.

I especially like the shorts promo. Kinda creepy...but kinda funny.

I do think viewers love this stuff. They love to think they know the secrets of those people on the little box in their living room.
Personally, I liked the idea behind each of the 3 spots but felt they were all too long. They would have been cuter and quirkier if they didn't repeat the joke just to fill time.

And I agree with Vic Digital on the robotic cameras replacing jobs. Don't know if viewers would make that same connection, but most of us have had friends and loved ones lose their jobs to those robots. and if you haven't yet, just wait...

There's always room for talent promotion...
I like the behind-the-scene style. It brings the viewers into the station; makes them feel like they're a part of it all.
Before I got into this business, I always wondered what goes on at a TV station and any glimpse I got left me wanting more.
Though I like the premise of these spots, they fell well short (no pun intended) of being memorable. Like a previous poster said, they were too long.

If you had a brand like 'Curiousity' or 'Know More' they'd be a really interesting take on the brand... kind of an image meets talent promotion... because other than creativity reinforcing the brand these do give viewers little other reason to watch...
