Huss, I checked the off the mark box. Are you saying your plan was to make people think "What the hell were they thinking?"? If that is the case I'll change it to off the mark. They are different if that's what you were going for. Criticism is good and I would suggest not getting all upset about comments from anonymous people.

Will, no what my (probably poorly worded) comment meant was simply that it seems that many times the stuff we do that makes it here gets these types of rankings/markings, while promos of a more conventional and standard nature get high praise, which is fine (really) but in my opinion, kind of boring and tired. I don't think viewers pay much attention to promos like that anymore. They're (for the most part) too sophisticated and those types of promos just wash over them. Like a good commercial, we strive to stand out, be remembered and make a connection with the way viewers think and behave. In these promos in particular, they were very tied to the freakish winter we've had and the fact that most viewers, whether jokingly or not, believe that meteorologists control the weather... so let's have some fun with it.
The notion that TV weather folks somehow ‘control’ the weather is one that’s been used a lot in weather promotion and I think it can ring true with viewers and you can have a lot of fun with it. This treatment’s a little too literal for me, and I think the announcer read is kind of creepy. Paul Greeley pgreeley98@aol.com
Just wanted to follow up on this - Our chief meteorologist (the guy in the second spot) said that in his 17 year career at the station, he's never gotten more positive feedback than he's had with this spot. So, there's that. :) Paul, you are right, we did have fun and I think it did ring true with viewers.

Bad acting, but John Young's sloppy voiceover just makes it even worse.
To all the "what the hell were they thinking" checkers... thanks for reminding me that we're on the right track. And Anon, I think JY did just fine.

Sorry, I meant that I will change it to "What the hell were they thinking?" if that's what you were aiming for.
Some background, since I live in this area - it just started airing after winter weather finally arrived about a month and a half late.

But maybe that's just me.
