WFAA "Count On Ron"

More humorous spots from WFAA for their morning man Ron Corning.  Some of these venture into some uncharted territory for news promos... I'm curious how they play to the audience.

I've liked some of their past Ron Corning promos but these seem to be way off.

no words....just wow....and not a good wow.

I disagree with the above commenters. I think these are great and out of the box! Ron can act and not a lot of news talent can do that. Kudos to the CS team making use of it.

I have to agree with Tim I love these spots. Creative, no cliches and Ron is a great actor. The likeability factor for Ron is high with me. I would sample the show.

Love these spots. The spots that everyone else does that "sell" newscasts are pointless and ineffective. Everyone knows that you have news, it's not a ground-breaking revelation that you also do weather and sports. Make me laugh, make me like your people, and I'll check you out. I don't need to be told that you cover what matters to me...I assume all news products are doing that.

Oh my. The babysitting and the milk are funny and clever, I like those. 'The Talk' might even be funny and it might work. The eulogy is not funny at all, and leaves me with a icky, icky, icky feeling. That one went too far.

I would love to leave my kids alone in a room with Ron...talking about...whatever it is Ron is talking about....not. If this is 'creative'...I don't wanna be.

The station has successfully created a character/personality for their morning show. And let's face it, morning shows are all the same. So if you can get people to sample your newscast based on personality, all the more power to ya.

The people who hate this, probably think promoting "weather on the 8s, 5s, or 7s" along with news and traffic is good advertising.

The only caveat is if Ron in the promo is anything like Ron on the newscast.

My question is more of production and budget. It looks like these spots were done out of house by an agency. I know Dallas is a big market, but how common is farming out the work like this?

Brilliant!

I believe Hothaus still handles most image production for WFAA.

I think these are great... It's refreshing to see a TV station come up with something unique and outside-the-box.

I would watch.

Thanks guys. These were shot by Liberal Media Films and we love being this kind of "creative" at WFAA...especially when backed by numbers. More to come!

Please run these spots as often as possible!

Signed- all the other TV stations in DFW.

WFAA I'm guessing you have to deal with consultants who suck the life out of your spots.
The sex ed spot was a bit out there for me...but I love most of your other work. Nice job.

Sorry I meant you DON'T have deal w consultants...

There's a little hooplah with the "talk" ad, but it wasn't that creepy to me since the Dad put him up to it.

I'll say it again, this is more than a promo, it's advertising. It's just a shame so many producers and managers still think the two are separate.

Nice job!

This captures Ron's personality so well. Had the pleasure of working with Ron on The Daily Buzz a few moons back, and he is a great guy, and pretty darn funny too.
