The effects are good enough to get the point across. This works because it's probably big news in that market. It's extremely local, so it fits. Anyone else tries it and I'd be like, "WTHWTT?".
And you wonder why you're next to last in the ratings....is local news about what value your newscast is to the viewer or is it about the anchors looking cool on tv?
