Here is a nearly shot by shot copy of a KTVT promo from Dallas. They are both CBS O&Os... but it seems a little odd to me.
Anyone know more of the scoop?
I don't have the Dallas spot from youtube, but you can find it on David Hershey's(the former CSD at KTVT) company website:
http://www.edgecreative.la/site/reelshootspots.html
It's marked 11 News Timelapse. There are some other news promos there as well.

Jeez. They couldn't even be bothered to use different music??? I'll be curious to hear the scoop as well.
I wonder if they just hired Edge to do the spot for them too and said, "Copy that one!" That would be my guess, but I honestly don't know.
It is possible they hired Edge, as the CSD from KTVT did the spot in Dallas and now works for Edge.
My guess? A lot of careful examination of the Dallas spot - including the spot actually loaded in the Avid timeline so they could edit to those same beats.
Not saying its horrible what they've done - especially since its the same company - just a little surprising.
And a little lazy. It was a nice looking spot but I'm not sure it was worth a shot by shot copy.
I've was at a CBS O&O and asked to copy a Hershey spot frame for frame. Pretty humiliating because I don't find his work very compelling. I guess his style works in Dallas however, today's TVSpy newsletter says he went back to his old station.
Holy shit! He's coming back?!! I hadn't heard that. I nearly went to work for KTVT - but couldn't get out of my contract here.
Anyone know what's happened to Terry? Great guy... I'm shocked.
He's coming back to be VP of Marketing and the Web. Starts Feb 4th.
Question about your contract-
What kind of non-compete/penalties are in that contract that you couldn't leave to work waaaay outside of your current d.m.a.?
I'd really rather not get into specifics on a public site like this - but basically my contract says I will work here until a certain date, period.
I have a non-compete that is for the market, good for one year after my contract ends here.
It is made for the station's benefit and next time, I will negotiate some sort of out, if possible.
KDKA is not good enough to have done that on their own. Have you seen their promos?
I understand about not going public about your contract. I was just wondering about your non-compete (which you answered). And every station's contract is written to protect their assets. BTW-keep up the good work on the blog. I enjoy checking it out and seeing what other perspectives are out there in promo land.
