Creative? yup. Production value? check. Message? We'll entertain you???
Is this a news station or The Soup on E! ?
Is this the station to watch when severe weather rolls in, when another teen shoots up a school...or when Swazey gets cancer?
Not that I'm damming these spots. I thought they had high entertainment value, and definitely attempt to make an emotional connection with us snarky sarcastic viewers.
You can see the spots in your head before they hit air.. cue the running cameraman.. cue the serious anchor on the phone.. cue the reporter doing a live shot in front of a raging fire.
And yet numbers go down. We've seen it all before!
I give WBZ all the credit in the world for understanding that differentiating their newscast and making it human and sometimes humorous isn't a bad thing.
What they're doing is different because it's actually ADVERTISING!

Look.. promos for news have become wallpaper.

Drew - I agree with you a 1000%.
These WBZ spots aren't my favorites ever - but I do like them. They are very singular in focus and they attempt to make a point.
What point are we making with all this bull we put on the air?
Most stations do not get it. WBZ clearly does. And you watch - it will work.
