WESH and other Hearst stations have a very cool new feature for their websites - radar that can be controlled by the actual viewer/user. It has been very well received by users... creating for us about 20-30,000 pageviews pn an average day... much more when there is bad weather.
Here is a POP done by one of our producers, Paul:
INTERACTIVE RADAR POP

Could have been more effective with actual sound from the viewer. It sonds to me that you rounded up accounting and had them voice the thing over. For me it just did not stand out... at all.
It's a "blast"?!
Even if some viewer called it that, I would refrain from using that line. I just don't think anyone would buy an interactive radar as a "blast".
Visuals are nice but the poster above is right: it doesn't stand out. Not sure what else you could do to make it stand out.
Also, I'm not sure a POP is the best way to promote this type of product. I think image serves this better. Show the product up close and personal, not just inside the laptop. Show the mouse clicking and dragging the radar... Tell me why this is better than the interactive ones on Yahoo and Weather.com. Those are the competitors.
I liked it a little more than you did, anon. Maybe not totally standout, but it's a good, clean design and the point is clear.
I love how some people assume only one spot was created for the entire promotional campaign. Just because you haven't seen it - doesn't mean it didn't exist.
There was an explainer spot as well. This spot was the next phase - which included actual viewer testimonials.
As for the soundbites -- these were emails. Anyone have a better solution for voices for emails than what was done?
Lets be helpful instead of just critical "anonymous"...
Visually appealing and straightforward.
I agree that the viewer voices are a bit pablum, but it's not something that most would register. Sometimes something as simple as real voicemail helps give this a more authentic feel.. but sometimes you end up with great bites buried under bad audio or alot of "ums" and "uhs".
If they were real bites, names and locators might help smooth that over too.
In the end, a nice clean spot for a good service. With some heavy storms on the way, I would probably give this product a try.. and isn't that half the battle?
Sorry did not mean to offend. I just felt the approach was a little lack luster. "Nice clean approach" I will agree but maybe a little more show and tell would help and how about some animated text instead of hokey vo. People can just see through voices when they are not sincere.
Just offering advise not judgement.
"I can look right down to my street and see if its raining at my house" are you kidding me!!!
That is hokey! How did that comment slip thought the cracks? Ever heard of a window? Maybe get off the online porn long enough to look outside.
Looks like idopromoz can dish out the criticism but can't take it. I'm willing to bet there's more to the story behind some of the promos that are called out on this board. (and no I'm not bitter...my promos have not been discussed)
But I agree with the other posters. The look is alright, but the lack of real viewers is just cheesey.
I guess I did come across as defensive - but I think some of the comments were off base.
This was one of several spots that will make up this campaign. Some advice tends to be based on the belief that this was the only spot ever made for the campaign.
I'm all for criticism -- but heck, I didn't even do this spot! But I guess if I'm guilty of anything - its taking up for my peeps.
Suck on that isitrainingyet.
:)
And as for the crazy idea that there's more to it as to what spots get called out on this board -- well, um... err... look over there!!
(idopromoz dashes out the back door... nat sounds of tires screeching away)
No... sorry, no conspiracies. There are only a few promos posted on youtube each day - and I try to put the best ones on here as well. But when a spot sucks - I'll share that too. I try to be fair.
corporate loved it...
doesn't that just figure! :)
I did "have a blast" making it though.
