Iowa WX Promos

I applaud them trying something different - but the overacting really bothers me. And I think the woman in the second spot is really going to regret that hairdo.

I'm thinking the overacting is supposed to be a spoof of a soap opera, which is notorious for so-so acting. This spot just might work, though, as ABC owns women 18-49 and women still love soaps, as the success of Desperate Housewives proves. Now, if it doesn't bump them up a few tenths of a point, it won't be because they didn't try.

Maybe these will air only during daytime soaps...

coming from an iowa market originally i can really appreciate how these guys went out on a limb to try something different...it's not always appreciated.
fun idea! i almost feel that it could have been a bit more over the top-to really drive home to "mock" factor? maybe a single tear at some point-if it's meant to mock a soap opera maybe an evil twin?
then again-as you all know...i'm WAY out there, haha-so that's my warped sense of humor.
good job, iowa! woot.
ps. Go Hawkeyes!

Kudos for the trying something different, really trying to connect with one particular audience/demographic... It hits a good emotional driver well but does lack a bit in the sell... 'most accurate' is a phrase claim thrown around a lot in weather/news and this spot does little to prove why they are the most accurate... I don't think just saying more accurate carries much weight these days...

If it only airs during soaps then that's a good thing.

But the claims of 'most accurate' are certainly up for debate. Any station can say that.

In defense of the station - there is a "WeatheRate" logo on there... an independent firm that measures accuracy.

Now... we should assume they've run tons of other promos which would explain to viewers why they can claim most accurate.

If they've covered that territory -- I think its ok to just make a mention of it in these spots.

Still not sure these were meant for soaps only... was that just a guess?

Just a guess... because that's what I'd do with these spots: run them in and around soaps.

We shot these as a spoof. And certainly to be different. We have been running tons of "Most Accurate" by Weatherate promos for the last three years. We wanted it too be over the top, and be fun.
They air mostly in daytime, although we did find a spot for them in and around the Oscars.

I like the idea, but the overacting bothers me a bit. And the Weatherate logo? Barely saw it, and is that a benefit to the viewer? Do they know what Weatherate is? Do you run promos educating about Weatherate?
