Overheard in the Edit Bay

Hmmm, let's see. I can turn the anchors black and white. No, that's been done. How about pumping up the chroma? No... I need something new, something fresh!

Wait! I've got it! How about VAPORIZING them!!!!

The music really didn't do it for me. It didn't build or payoff and there wasn't any nats that I remember.

I think the "vaporizing" either bothers you or it doesn't. You kind of made it sound like it was some cheesy, "comedy" spot. I guess if you're going to do that effect, this way was the best. It looked fine but wasn't really necessary.

You could achieve the same message by just cutting to the text on black with a glow and some particles.

While I'm not sure why you think anything I said made it sound like a cheesy, "comedy" spot -- I do think the effect is kinda cool.

I'm a little old school however when it comes to anchors. I prefer to present them at their best - no messing with their images unless necessary or an effect too good to pass up.

If I had the energy - I'd change the music on this spot and add vaporizing SFX and screams. Turn it into a trailer for a sci fi film. Now that would be comedy!

You made it sound like it was going to be a cheesy, comdey because you concocted a whole scenario of people in a edit bay bantering about the goofy stuff we do to promos and ending in a eureka moment of "VAPORIZING" them, which is obviously an exaggeration of what was happening.
If you're going to try to be funny or cheesy in your introduction, I don't think it's a leap to assume you thought the spot was going to be cheesy or funny.
That aside, I think the spot looked great. The effect was eye-catching without making the talent look bad. My only concern is that there wasn't much of a "message"

I've seen that happen before...not just on this site, but others...the intro will say something like...

'SO THEY HAVE THEIR BORING ANCHORS DOING THIS AND SOME BAD MUSIC SAYING THAT AND THE ODD GRAPHICS DOING THIS.. DOES IT REALLY DO A GOOD JOB OF SELLING THEIR NEWS? YOU DECIDE.'

I think the decision has already been made for us in the intro.

And on the opposite side...I've also seen the poster preface the spot by declaring it's the most awesome promo they've ever seen or whatever.

For what it's worth..I'd rather the intros just be factual, ie: Here's some new spots from station XYZ promoting their new whatever. Maybe even let us know if they were done in-house or by a production company. This site does that most of the time, which I like...but sometimes waivers. I've seen other sites that are brutally worse.

Staying neutral in the intros may prevent the comments from being steered in one way or another with bandwagon posts. But, that's just my 2 cents...it's ultimately up to the person who's put in the time and effort for their site...and like this one, I appreciate their work a lot! So, I don't want to be too critical.

I'm a big fan of this station's work - I was just trying to have a little fun with the intro!

I liked the intro! If not for Don's intro, I would have stopped watching as soon as the music started.

I have nothing against the intro...this is a site about giving opinions on promos.

I was just trying to point out to Don that when you set up a spot in a certain light (cheesy, comedy), don't be surprised or indignant in your response to a poster who comments on your presentation.

I like the spot!

Bitching about the intro??? This IS a blog isn't it?! Don't like it? Go to youtube and look up promos on your own.

Absolutely LOVED the treatment and shot selection!!! Music... meh... it left me a little dry (local band?)

What really irked me, was the bug and endpage boasting HD, but the spot is in 4x3..
