UPDATED: I lived in Houston for 3 years... its a beautiful place(and thanks to no zoning laws - it can be ugly too!)
This image spot is well edited with some beautiful images. Problem is -- what does it say about the station?
Here is a spot that is similar but connects real issues in the community to the station:

Well do you have to say something to make a connection to Texas pride.
Maybe the emotion you feel just watching it connects to the logo at the end. Just guessing but maybe it's saying we here at 39 have the same Texas pride as you so connect with us.
I get making a connection - but couldn't any station say they are connected to Texas pride?
KHOU in Houston is "The Spirit of Texas"... so how does 39 stand out?
It seemed very chamber of commerce to me... not a spot that clearly defines the 39 brand.
Welcome to the new world of Tribune branding. They gutted WTXX in Connecticut, making it "The CT". New logo (semi-PBS reminiscent) and image spots that are just people with camcorders shooting nightclubs, bars, and other "cool places" (aka paid clients).
Not only could any station say they are connecting to Texas pride but I would guess they all do. There is no copy rights on that.
Maybe 39 has a few spot that are running along side this spot that tie it all in.
So many times here on this site we see only one spot and don't see a connecting campaign or supporting spots. We are all to fast to criticize.
I don't know why but I do feel more connection to the first of the two spots. The second feels like I am being sold something.
Is there a place for imagery without a "clear" connection to the station? Is there something on a subconchus level that makes a spot better even if it doesn't have a underling "watch us" message?
Of course this is the spot that everyone copied form 2 years ago...WTHR lifted the concept in whole.

I'm all for not shoving a "watch me" message down the throat of viewers - but putting a :30 spot on the air that has NO connection to a brand seems like a waste.
I swear I have seen this spot a hundred times now - everyone's rolling out their own version of it. This one was definitely not as good as some of the others that came before.
