What a wasted promo. Show me the investigations that you do, don't tell me about it. This is more of an exercise in graphic production than anything. It's just a bunch of generic image shots with no substance. And the whole premise of 'raising the bar even higher' is flawed, because the only difference seems to be a new name for the investigative team. That's raising the bar? No. That's just slapping name on something you already do.
If a producer brought this to me, I'd send them back to the edit bay and tell them to start over. Get some video to back up what you're saying. And lose the shots of the 'photographer' holding the camera staring into my soul. He's just creepy looking.
This seems to be the fallback position for a lot of promotion producers: focus on the talent, the newsroom, the photographers and the equipment because it's easy. But viewers don't give a rats ass about that kind of stuff.
I doubt the viewer is as connected to the old "11 News Defenders" -name- anyways as much as we wish they were. On the real, if you're going to go all dramatic on an investigative spot, for the love of pete show me what you're talking about. Give me some meat to sink my teeth into. Also, this is freaking Houston.. I thought everything was bigger in Texas. This feels like a rushed afterthought. Which, if that's the case I get, totally. It looks cool, but how memorable is a wall of pretty faces, and what does that have to do with investigating, anything.
Couldn't agree more Mark and Live...don't TELL me what you're doing - SHOW me. It's like the boy who cried wolf - you can talk all you want but until I see the proof I won't believe it. Showing the action and investigations lead to more credibility.
I agree with the previous posts, this is just off the mark. I won't elaborate anymore. Two things that bugged me: If you're going to use still shots of talent, for god's sake make them flattering shots! Also, what's up with using the word "wrongdoing?" Aren't we supposed to write in a conversational matter? When was the last time you used that word in a sentence?

To add some background on this -- KHOU has had a highly successful investigative team for years. Most recently, it consisted of two investigators.
These spots are showcasing the additional reporters/resources going towards this.
Not my favorite promos either... and the departure from the well-established brand "11 News Defenders" seems odd to me.

Is this for the daily show? If you tagged out with John Stewart I would not think twice about it.Sorry guys but this was way off the mark.
I think proofs/POPs serve Investigation promos much better than image.
Otherwise, it's just an edgier-version of your news image promo with lesser-known personalities folding their arms to appear dramatic.

Yeah, this is canned. No passion.
