-Minus the self-inflicted low ratings jab, I like the 'Off the Air' spot the best. The concept of these is pretty swift.. lots of room for building these up, maybe even topically. They are carbon copy cartoon network, but let's be real.. no target demos will ever even make the connection. (which is good) I def. think they have the potential to be effective.
They're unique, they don't look like typical promos for a local TV station, which is good...but actually watching & reading without any VO is asking a lot of your viewers. Most likely, a lot of the audience is going to miss the message. Remember, nobody's sitting at home waiting to watch commercial breaks. In other words, if I was walking into the kitchen during commercials, this would not make me turn around & look at the tv (and this is of course assuming I didn't DVR the show to begin with!).
Hey, it's an experiment, really. We've learned that 'The Event' and 'Parenthood' are the #1 and #2 DVR'd show, so what good is a topical going to do us? If we can get them to stop, read, and be amused and apply a little bit of "hey, they're funny/cool" then it's a win for me.
Yeah, we didn't air the "off the air" spot. That one didn't go over real well internally. :)
But we do want to continue this series. And yup, they are totally Adult Swim inspired.
I wish those who checked "What the ehll were they thinking" would defend their position. I'd love to hear it
