Hope it lives up to the hype! So many of the sweeps promos over deliver. How do you weigh producing a great promo (it is our job after all) over a crap news story. You don't want to get someone to watch only to pull the rug out from under them. Thoughts?
I don't think I've every thought "I could make a great promo, but this story doesn't deserve it." It is my job to make the promos as best as I can. Normally the stories that aren't that great do not have good footage, soundbites, or even much of a story angle, so that usually constrains the promo right off the bat. Fortunately for this horse promo, the reporter tends to do a pretty good job with crafting his stories so I don't think we will be "pulling the rug" from our watchers.
I've thought that many times... "the promo is way better than the story". But I still make the best promo I can. It is a bit of a disservice to the viewer-- and they feel burned-- when they see a really neat, interesting promo, and the story winds up not living up to the quality presented.
It's the same with movie trailers. How many times has the movie not lived up to the trailer? But viewers are smart enough to know that a promo is just that - a promo to get you to watch. As long as we're not "burning" our viewers all the time (and I don't think we do that here at our station), they'll keep watching.

I would watch this. Nice work

Best promo I've seen in a long time. How could you NOT tune in for this? Again, it'll be a really big let down if the story turns out to be crap.
Goosebumps at the end. I've seen a promo for a story very similar to this one in Vegas and it certainly wasn't this good.
