Lots and lots of great production, but I gotta say the promotion was kind of weak. The NBC 2 spots were amazingly slow and boring. The WBZ spots were beautiful, almost to the point that it feels like a commercial and not a news story. Not sure if that's what they want to go for. The KATU "Does it work?" spot has remarkably good actors, but I felt like they should have cut to testing the products or angry consumers at some point. And the "Low Sex Drive" spot, although well shot, fell off a cliff once the reporter's mug appeared on camera.
Overall, lots of creative ideas. Some well-executed, some not so much. All lightyears beyond what I've come up with myself, that's for sure!
When you watch the WBZ spots in the context of a full 2:30 break, they really stand out well. One of these days I'm going to roll on their topicals. They do a great job breaking out of the box with those as well.
Beyond the visual quality of the WBZ spots I got a real viewer benefit. I want to go to their website to see those stories myself.
The KATU "Does it work?" series seemed interesting too. However I cared very little about watching The Investigators stories. They had slick production, but viewer appeal was lacking.
The Low Sex Drive spot lacked the bazinga at the end. They should have established the reporter then gone back to the couple in the bed.
Anyway that's my $0.49 ($0.02 adjusted for inflation).

gotta love stations that pre-plan sweeps stories and give reporters and promotions time to execute!
