I understand we want to encourage audience interaction to help build loyalty to a news team. I understand that the integration of social media can enhance our news product. What I don't understand is why these meteorologists are begging the viewers to help them do their jobs.

To me it sounds like there crews can't get to the breaking news, don't have the technology to go live during severe weather, and moreover don't know where the weather is most dangerous unless I take a cell phone pic, upload it, tag them, wait for the web staff to find it, and hope it gets turned around into on-air content.

That was my takeaway... but I could be over thinking this.

I agree with Paul's comment above. But I do have to say that it was shot very well. Props to the camera operator!

One little pet peeve of mine...make sure you have the current logos for social media...Both of the Facebook and Twitter logos are old versions. But that's just me :)

This makes me think that they need us to do the work for them. We are the eyes and ears of weather for a professional weather team??? isnt the weather team the eyes and ears for me? You want me to do the reporting and send in the pictures while you sit in the studio and shoot promos? Show the team doing work, in the field, in the studio, covering weather. Right idea in focusing on promoting facebook interaction, but this is the wrong approach. Get the audience involved, but don't rely on them for weather coverage.

The other thing that gets me from the spot (and generally from news in general) is that they explain the way social media works... "you can send me this info instantaneously... la la la". Everyone who knows anything about it understands how this works. You don't say, "the man walked from one side of the street to the other, using one leg, then the other. It's a convenient way to move oneself from place to place."
