When I watched these spots, my first reaction was, a, I like this guy, b, I feel like I’m sitting next to him at the bar, and c, I think I’d like to sit next to him, have a few drinks and know him a little better. I certainly would want to watch him on the news. Nicely done. Local TV news promotion doesn’t have to be in-your-face, over-produced, cliché-driven, market-researched buzz words repeated over and over. It can be an honest spot with about an engaging personality, just talking, no script, who loves his job and can convey that on-camera to recruit viewers. I see spots like this and think, why can’t more local TV news marketing image spots be like this. Intelligent, classy, truthful, personal, effective. There is hope for local TV news marketing.
