WKYC Weather Promo

Here is a funny weather promo from a few years ago. Not sure what Mark Nolan's brand or personality is onair - but this is humerous. Its not hard-edged but not every weather promo needs to be. Thoughts?

A little background on the spot for you:
While every one else in town was screaming the sky is falling in their weather promos, we were marketing Mark as the meteorologist who would "prepare you, not scare you." So we would try to do promos that were a little different and didn't focus on the technology, but on the personality of our weather team.
The spot matches Mark's personality to a tee. He's a very wity, outgoing guy and viewers knew his sense of humor when he was the morning show meteorologist. When we did this spot he had been promoted to the Chief spot on the evening newscasts.

It's a little off the wall, but having Roker in it helped because he used to work here before moving on to NYC. I have to admit I was skeptical when we did this spot. The marketer in me was thinking "what does this do to his credibility?" But the viewer response was very positive.

Fortunately we have a boss who doesn't stifle our creativity and lets us produce just about any crazy idea we have. And trust me, I've produced some promos that in hindsight, never should have hit the air. But sometimes you have to let the creative juices flow and see what happens.

Very well done...up until Roker starts crying. I think that was a little over the top. But nice blend of two pop culture events(Behind the Music) and (Frosted Flakes commercial).

I love when he says "Don't ever kiss my head like that again."
