Publix Grocery Store Spots

In Orlando - the big grocery store is Publix. Instead of telling you corn is on sale or their checkers are faster than any other store in town... they go for the heart with their spots.

Not that news stations could do these kind of spots - but they are interesting to watch. They are a good example of storytelling in commercials- most times without ever saying a word.

You just aren't trying hard enough to make it a news promo.

Start with any one of these spots, where they are preparing the dish, then before it gets to the warm and fuzzy ending, cut to a shot of a car waiting out in front of a school yard, windows tinted. Ominous music moves in. Cut to a shot of the pie or whatever on the seat. Cut to handheld POV shot from inside the car watching as a little kid exits from the school. Dissolve to black.

Fade up to News 4 logo over black background along with title of sweeps series name (Hey Kid, Want Some Pie?). Announcer comes in over ominous music, " 'Hey Kid, Want Some Pie?' How safe are our children? News 4 shows you just how easy it is to abduct your children. All this week at 11."

In fact, I may create this myself using the footage in these spots. Fun!
