Jacksonville Takes On Jay Leno

Kelly from WJXT in Jacksonville, Florida sent these along for everyone's feedback.

They did these "News is Cool" spots to counter Jay Leno at 10pm.

Sorry, these don't work for me. It's got an "edge" to it, but it still comes across as a straight news image spot. Dump the anchors or at least have them smile a bit. Let the actors do all the talking, go for a lighter music track, and get rid of the corporate "news" BankGothic font and you might be in business going for an audience looking to be entertained.

Leno is counter-programming. It's a waste to go after that audience if you're a traditional newscast.

News is not a "cool" product. And unless you alter the product, a "cool" promo will only lead to viewer disappointment when they get to the bland newscast.

I agree that these don't really do it for me - they look good but feel kind of fake.
However I disagree that news is not "cool"...it can be cool depending on your specific product, identity and personality.

news may be cool... it's the anchors who are anything but cool.

i'm not knocking them... but this isn't the best way to show teir strengths. they are not cool.
