New Weather Spots

We recently completed 2 new weather image spots here at CBS 13. I wrote them and they were shot & edited by Mike Wiebe.

I liked the first one a lot! Loved the motion tracking shot off the top, and the cheesy rain cloud was fun. Well shot, nice endpage, simple message!

The second one... meh.. I can't tell you the last time I saw a rainbow. Not a fan of the 'digging for gold' delivery either.

On the plus side, next time I see a rainbow, I may look to see which color is the biggest. What did they mean again? :)

You guys do such fun stuff! Can you get the "making mother nature our bitch" line in sonewhere?

They remind me a bit of those weather factoid promos we saw a while back (I think WBZ & CBS2 did them). I like that you took them outside instead of doing them on the overused white seamless. Copy was good, anchors were ok. Fun stuff overall!

Only a few things I'm not sure about. That camera move at the beginning of the rainbow one is just weird. I like using the soccer ball to show how the doppler works, but I'm not really sure anyone cares how it works, ya know. That's the only thing I question with these types of promos. They're fun, they're a breath of fresh air, but do people really give a rats you know what about how the doppler works? Is that a viewer benefit? I'm torn, I like it but not sure if it's effective.

Also, I personally find the rainbow one more interesting. It's info I can use the next time I'm driving down the road & see a rainbow!

Just my 2 cents!

PS...Paulie, where do you live that you never see rainbows? Remind me to never work there! ;-)

Creatively I liked them both a lot. I like that you're working out how to explain that stuff, because I think most people may care about learning about these things, even if they don't say they care about them ... Good graphics, I like the simplicity of it ...

I like both of these... but I had the same thought as Paulie. Not alot of rainbows in DFW. I'll definitely think about this spot tho if I ever do see one.
Both very clever! Still, I'm so glad I don't have to do weather promos anymore. ;-)
