Interesting idea but ranting and raving is not journalism.

Also, in the second promo, the woman says, "I almost got ran over yesterday." I know these are supposed to be "real people" but can they at least speak properly?

I like this... it's not hard journalism maybe, but it's a great way to try to motivate your web audience and gives them something real to do on your station's site. I'll be interested to see how well this works...

The "rant and rave" aspect has worked for the NBC O&O's sites. At least Broadcast Interactive, the company that implemented that portion of things, is expanding it to their other clients as well.

Needless to say, 'community journalism' only works if you've got the staff to handle the extra submissions and post more stories. Check out abc6.com for examples of how not to do it (i.e. stories that are sometimes more than two weeks old on the front page).

I believe this is a Fisher Broadcasting thing that is farming it out to stations across the country, right down to the graphics you see here.

These are websites for the community, which means Rant & Rave has its place.
