Favorite Music Package?

Megatrax?  Videohelper?  You with a kazoo in the audio booth?

Where do you turn for music?  Any packages you wish you had?

My favorite has always been Videohelper.  Modern music with the funniest liner notes around.

I've also come to love Megatrax.  A huge range and a searchable website.

What package do you love the most when you're in a promo pinch and need that perfect score?

Videohelper without question. Second in line is APM... thousands of titles searchable online. When you can't find what you need from videohelper (rare) you'll find it on APM!

I liked Megatrax particularly after they added a number of other libraries. I found Videohelper less versatile, and the notes were a bit much ("like drawing milk from a breast implant" and the like). Associated Production Music, APM, was my favorite years ago, but that might be sentimental because that's what we used at my first television job!

And not only do they have great music that has worked for anything I ever needed, but the goofy descriptions always lighten up my stressful days! :)

See? I thought "like drawing milk from a breast implant" was funny. I guess then "the sound of R2D2 being sodomized" and "making a typo on your resume that says you're a champion 'blower' instead of 'bowler'" is not going to thrill you, either.

I've used a lot of different ones...VideoHelper is the best one-stop-shopping for promo music. We also use Killer Tracks, and it fills in the gaps nicely...like traditional holiday cuts and real classical music for that rare occasion. Video Helper doesn't really have those, and only a few scoring discs for longer cuts.

Used APM...too expensive at the time, too hard to find those hidden gems, and too many of their cuts sounded "like they were composed on a cheap casio in their parents' basement" (That's a direct quote from a producer, and why I got rid of them.)

Aircraft, Omni and Network were decent, but mostly lame. I think they've all improved a little since I used them.

I've got a love/hate relationship with VideoHelper. I can usually find a track I love only to have it interrupted by a silly sound effect or hokey synth addition.

They've gotten better with the last few releases, but more "traditional" tracks would be welcome. I just had to cut a spot for a jazz series and found no cuts that were appropriate.

That being said, for heart-stopping drama in a hurry, you can't beat VH.

Videohelper is number 1. Love the diversity of APM. Growing to like Megatrax since corporate took away all our other libraries.
