Great ABC Spot: Life on Mars

This show looks cool (maybe I'm crazy) -- and I love the way ABC went back to the 70s for this.

yep, your crazy...That look like the worst ABC show in years.
Realy, it's going to suck.

Somebody ceratinly spent some time going through the promo archive reels to get the look right. I think it's a cool approach, but it doesn't make me want to watch the show.

I think it needed dialogue from the pilot to tell the story...

I know the VO adds to the "theme" but it ultimately needs to sell me on the show.

I like the show's concept but I doubt I'll tune in. Also, I wonder if the reason the main character doesn't know why he's in the 70s is because the writers don't know why he's in the 70s. They probably figure, we'll come up with that if the show does well.

Fair point - but I did read an article that said ABC was running this spot in one commercial break - and then a modern version that helps explain the show better in the next pod.

I think with enough exposure - people will get a good feel for what the show is all about.

Whether they'll watch or not - is the million dollar question!

Fun spot.

I loved the BBC show this is based on, so I'm cautiously looking forward to seeing what they do with it on this side of the pond.

(although sadly, early word is that behind the scenes, this show is a mess... oh well.)

ABC has another spot that promotes the cast--Harvey Keitel, Gretchen Mol and Michael Imperioli. I agree that the spot posted here does nothing for me, but showing a cast like that makes me want to watch.

I think I saw the modern version and it had me scratching my head.

So he hits his head, and it takes him back to the 70's? O-K then.

I'm a fan of the original BBC series and I've been following the evolution of the U.S. adaptation with a great deal of interest. Granted, the show had a pretty shaky start with a dodgy pilot and the original producer and most of the cast being dropped. However, the new producers are avowed fans of the original series and everything from their casting choices to the retro promos indicates that they're taking a step in the right direction.
